This position is located in the Boulder, Colorado office. We are focused on developing test and measurement equipment for cryogenic and quantum computing. PURPOSE 
 
This is a full-time engineering position with a focus on design, building, and testing in R&D and new cryogenic products. Core responsibilities include assisting with the design of scientific instruments, creating mechanical drawings for precision parts, and aiding in the assembly and test of scientific equipment.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Utilize deep experience in core technologies of cryogenics, optics, mechanics, etc. to guide designs and program directions. 
  • Perform complex engineering analysis of experimental data and new designs to guide design decisions.
  • Use proficiency in SolidWorks to design complex parts and assemblies.
  • Organize projects; creation and maintenance of accurate BOMs, schedule estimations, customer reports. 
  • Document of designs with detailed drawings, including appropriate use of GD&T, and knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Work hands-on in a laboratory environment to build and test mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Interact with peers at customer organizations to coordinate test and acceptance of complex devices.
  • Lead small teams and projects with autonomy.
  • Present project updates and design reviews to upper-level management and customers.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
 
We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience. Post graduate degrees are a plus. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in high-tech and related fields. In addition, a candidate should be familiar with R&D environments and processes and be comfortable working closely within a team of design engineers. 
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET accredited school in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related discipline is required with 3 years experience required with Bachelors degree, OR Master's degree with minimum 1 year work experience. PhD in Engineering or Physics preferred.
  • Experience with CAD, mechanical drawings and GD&T; SolidWorks strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with or within R&D environments and/or complex or high-tech manufacturing.
  • Deep physics knowledge and understanding of materials properties and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience shepherding complex projects from initiation to completion.
  • Demonstrated comfort and skill in written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
The pay range for this role in Boulder, CO is between $94,100 and $124,000. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.  Benefits offered for this role include: bonus target, medical, dental, vision, EAP, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending and savings accounts, 401(k), ESPP and paid time off. The application window for this role is expected to close on September 30, 2024
