At FormFactor's High Precision Devices (HPD) Product Division, we specialize in researching, designing, testing, and manufacturing world-class Cryogenic refrigerators. These specialized refrigerators maintain temperatures of 4 Kelvin and lower, catering to advanced applications such as quantum computers, superconducting integrated circuits, and low-noise detectors for astronomical observation. Currently, we're at the forefront of developing next-generation refrigerators capable of continuously maintaining temperatures of 0.1K and lower. This endeavor involves interfacing with specialized instruments and devices essential for their function. If you possess excellent programming and debugging skills, coupled with a strong desire to work with hardware, you'll play an integral role in our R&D team, contributing to the successful delivery of world-class Cryogenic Refrigerators to the marketplace. 
 
PURPOSE:

We are seeking a Software Engineer who thrives in a small, multidisciplinary team environment. In this position, you'll be actively involved in coordinating scientific instruments to ensure the proper function of the cryostat and data collection, playing a vital role in the development of our products. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively participate in all stages of the software product lifecycle:
  • ​Conceptualize and architect software solutions tailored to desired functionalities.
  • Work with internal and external customers to clarify requirements and behaviors
  • Collaborate closely with fellow software engineers to develop and refine software components using C#. 
  • Design and implement comprehensive test procedures to uphold code integrity and functionality. 
  • ​Engage collaboratively with a diverse team spanning various disciplines: 
  • ​Analyze and interpret system diagrams and processes to enhance understanding. 
  • Grasp the functionalities of system-operating instruments, including vacuum pumps, pressure gauges, valves, and compressors. 
  • Contribute to the formulation of safe operating procedures with your team. 
  • ​Generate comprehensive documentation for both internal and external stakeholders: 
  • ​Utilize version control systems proficiently to facilitate teamwork and code management. 
  • Aid in the creation of informative diagrams and manuals, clarify system operation for end-users.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed product R&D reports and succinct executive summaries. 
 
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • 1-3 years of software development or SQA experience, including internship experience.
  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. 
  • 2 years of experience with C# or equivalent experience with C++/Java and a willingness to learn C#.
  • Some experience with communication interfaces such as TCP/IP and RS485
  • Willingness to travel as needed (<5%)
  • Ability to quickly learn new cutting-edge technologies  
 
Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency with lab test equipment such as Digital Multimeters (DMMs), Oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Experience with git version control
  • Experience with DeviceNet, Modbus, or other industrial communication standards 
 
The pay range for this role in Boulder, CO is between $64,100 and $84,100. The pay range may differ in other locations. FormFactor maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity. Benefits offered for this role include medical, dental, vision, EAP, short-term and long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending and savings accounts, 401(k), ESPP and paid time off.  The application period is expected to close by November 1, 2024.
